Get started with fast.ai running on a GPU in just a few clicks

fast.ai is one of the most successful and popular courses deep learning courses available on the internet today. As a product that is officially recommended by Jeremy Howard and the fast.ai team, Gradient has helped tens of thousands of engineers and data scientists learn new deep learning skills.

One of the great benefits of the fast.ai + Gradient integration is that all you need to do to get started is head to the Gradient console and select the fast.ai tile. Gradient will spin up a GPU-backed notebook from you in short order and you'll be off to the races.

Let's take a look at how to get started.

Running fast.ai with a free GPU on Gradient

After you make a Paperspace account you'll need to head to the console and select Notebooks > Create.

You should now see the Create a notebook flow:

From the Create a notebook screen you can select a number of pre-installed runtimes

From the Recommended runtime menu, scroll down until you find the fast.ai tile. You will then have the option to select your machine or instance type.

After you select the fast.ai tile, select a machine with a GPU. Here we are using the Free-GPU instance.

Gradient offers two free GPU instances: Free-GPU and Free-P5000. Both instance types are subject to availability and Free-P5000, which is an advanced GPU type, is only available to those on a G1 or higher subscription tier.
